Keeping Schools Safe

October 30, 2019

Dear Hall-Dale Community:

In an effort to remain as transparent as possible, we feel it necessary to inform you about an incident that occurred this evening.

A Hall-Dale High School student made a verbal threat this evening and a number of students/parents reported it to the administration and police department.  The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department went immediately to the student’s house and began their investigation.  This student will not be allowed to return to school until further notice.  At no time was there any immediate danger to students or faculty as all were at home.  We have procedures in place that allow us to quickly look into any threat made to protect our community.  I want to thank the Kennebec Police Department for looking into the matter, charging the student with terrorizing and keeping our community safe.

We will have a staff meeting tomorrow morning for faculty to debrief and have supports for any students as well, through our school counselors, administrators and social workers if needed.  I want to stress there is no safety risk to our children and faculty and we will have school tomorrow.

Thank you to the students/parents that reported this.  Thank you to the Kennebec Police Department and administrative team.  We all work together to keep our children and schools safe.

Sincerely,

Dr. Cheri Towle

Superintendent of Schools
