July 12 and 13: Sendai, Japan

Thursday July 12: Today I stayed at a hotel in Tokyo, Japan and tried a “thick omelet” according to the English translation. Sounds weird, but tastes good. The visit was interesting with many different shops where I bought a cider after Nate purchased a bottle. I went to the temple before shopping and spent 100 yen on a fortune. It was a regular fortune but the fortune was in my best interest. My host family is very nice. We went to a local restaurant nearby. At the restaurant, I sat on the floor. I tried many new foods after going to the restaurant. I gave my host family their gifts. The mother got a file, the father got golf-related items, the older sister got a guitar pic and the twin brothers got matching t-shirts.

Friday July 13: Today was our first day at the school. We started our day with a nice meeting about each other’s night and how our families are. Everyone seemed very happy. We got to shadow our host siblings for a little bit and then we took a tour of the school with some of the upperclassmen (senpais). We then got a nice rest and had an orientation! It was a simple explanation of the rules. Next we went back with our host students and shadowed another class. Many of us got tired at this point and had to rest and nap.  Around 3:30 we met up for a calligraphy session. It was great! They showed us how to write “heart” in kanji! We had a lot of fun! Many kids went home to their host families after this. If you want to hear more about that you’ll have to ask them when they get back! Thanks for reading folks :)
