April 13, 2020 RSU 2 Announcements
Acting Superintendent Mary Paine
Monday, April 13, 2020

Dear RSU 2 Families and Community Members,

I hope this finds you well and with your power and internet restored. I have a couple of brief announcements for you this evening.

Distance learning for the remainder of the school year: Following recommendations by the Department of Education, the Governor, and the CDC, RSU 2 plans to provide distance learning for the remainder of the year. Unless the recommendations change, we will not reopen our buildings for school. Even if it was expected, we know it will be sad news for some to hear finally that we will not be returning to school buildings for regular classes and spring events. At the same time, the outpouring of humanity, energy, and scholarship by teachers, principals and support staff over the last four weeks has eased the sadness and lessened the ‘distance’ in distance learning. I believe the spring of 2020 in RSU 2 will be memorable not only for the losses we endured but also for the many joys we created together.

Meal service to continue over April break: Thanks to a recent federal waiver, RSU 2 will continue meal service at its five sites during April break—the 20th through the 24th. The site schedule is expected to be the same as for the week of the 13th, and will be posted later this week. I know I speak for everyone in thanking the food service staff for their heroic frontline service to the children of our communities. They have turned harsh weather and grim circumstances into welcoming hospitality for many during this time of great need.

Masks for food service staff: Thanks to those who generously and quickly sent donations of masks for our staff. It means greater safety and comfort for everyone!

Superintendent’s Office Hours: It has been a challenge to host open office hours with my very busy schedule and more evening meetings. But I’m going to keep trying to find time. This week, I’ve chosen Wednesday, April 15 at 6:00 PM. The connection information is below. Hope you will join us!
