To all parents, guardians and citizens of RSU 2,
As we continue through the process of asking the State to construct a much needed pre-K to eighth grade building in Monmouth, we need to take the important step of a straw vote to determine if the voters of the communities of RSU 2 approve of the site we have chosen for the new school. Since we continue to think of the most efficient ways to realize our proficiency-based model of education and reduce the costs of operation, we have decided to purchase the land adjacent to Monmouth Academy. This will allow us to create a campus feel, share staff, reduce the number of miles traveled by our buses, and give students access to any teacher they may need depending on their level of academic readiness and not solely on their age.
The meeting will be this Thursday, October 20 at 6:00 p.m. at Monmouth Middle School, 117 Academy Road, Monmouth. We will meet in the gym. The evening will begin with an overview of the project by our architects, followed by a period of questions and answers and finally the vote.
If you have any questions, please contact me. Sincerely,
William P. Zima Superintendent of Schools, RSU 2
