MA Express 11/14/21

Greetings Mustangs!

I’d like to begin by congratulating the Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale Football Team for their 28-19 win over Freeport in the Class D semifinal game played Saturday - 11/13.  The team will play Foxcroft for the Class D State Title on Friday - 11/19 at 7:00pm at the Cameron Stadium in Bangor.  Best of luck to the football team; we are very proud of you!

Remote Learning: This past week was only a three day school week (11/08 - 11/10) as we observed Veterans Day on 11/11 and had a workshop day on 11/12.  All students at MA were remote last week, and will continue with remote learning (as of this communication) through Friday - 11/19.  I emailed all students a copy of the standard operating procedures and expectations for remote learning for MA last Monday (11/08).  If a student has any questions or needs support, they (or their parent) is encouraged to please contact the school.

CATC: Any student who attends CATC is still required to attend while we are remote.  Our bus leaves from the front of MA at 10:50 and returns at 2:00.  If a CATC student needs a ride to MA to catch the bus (or if they need a ride home after the bus returns from CATC), they need to call the school first thing in the morning to request that transportation and we will do our very best to make those arrangements for them.  Thanks!

Progress Reports: The 1st semester midpoint progress reports have been produced and were mailed out on Wednesday - 11/10.  In addition to receiving a progress report for your student(s), if they are in grades 9 - 11 and took the NWEAs back in October, we have included their assessment report for you to review.  If you have any questions about the progress report, please direct those questions to the teacher(s).  If you have any questions about the NWEA report, please direct those to Ms. Knowlton in Guidance.  Thanks!

Mask Wearing:  As you are all aware, we are required to wear masks whenever we are in any of our school facilities.  It is extremely important that your mask is covering both your mouth and nose.  I’ve asked staff to help enforce this expectation; and I want to thank everyone in advance for your cooperation with this request.

Guidance Department Update:

The Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey that was scheduled to take place during the 1st period on 11/10 has been moved to Monday - 11/22. The make-up session for those students who are out on 11/22 will be on Tuesday - 11/23.

Seniors are reminded to check out the 2021-2022 scholarship document for an ongoing list of scholarships that come across Mrs. Knowlton’s desk!

Virtual Parent/Teacher Conferences (11/18 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm):  Parents and guardians are invited to visit https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Monmouth_Academy_1 to register for conferences.  Instructions can be found at this link as needed: https://bit.ly/maptcfall21.  If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

Class Meetings with the Principal: Due to being remote, I haven’t been able to have the class meetings as scheduled.  Therefore, after discussing it with my Leadership Team, I’ve decided to wait until Tuesday (11/30) and will meet with each grade level (individually) between blocks 1 & 2.

Dates to Note:

11/18 = Parent/Teacher Conferences (done virtually between 4:00pm - 8:00pm)

11/22 = MIYHS Survey (make-up on 11/23)

11/24 - 11/28 = No School - Thanksgiving Break

11/30 = Class Meetings with the Principal

From the Nurse: Parents are reminded that participation in the covid vaccine clinic is voluntary and not mandatory. Permission forms were sent home with students and should be returned to the Nurse ASAP if a parent wants their student to receive the vaccine.  The clinic will run on 11/17 and 12/06.

That concludes this week’s edition of The MA Express!.  Have a great week, take care & stay well.

Mr. Ted Finn, Principal
