MA Express 11/21/21

Greetings Mustangs!

The Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale Football Team lost a hard-fought game to Foxcroft Academy in the Class D State Championship game Friday evening by a score of 19 - 16.  We want to extend our congratualtions for an amazing season, and we want them to know how very proud we are of them!

Assuming nothing changes between now and Monday morning, all MA students will be back to in-person learning on Monday (11/22).  Due to the Thanksgiving break, we will only have a two day school week as the vacation will run from Wednesday (11/23) through Sunday (11/28).  Students are reminded that masks are required in all school facilities and on all school transportation vehicles (before, during, and after school hours).  The mask must be covering both your mouth AND nose.  Teachers are required to maintain accurate seating charts and students need to sit where they have been assigned to sit in the event that we have to do a close contact tracing.  Students are also expected to sit in an assigned seat during their lunch block.  Your cooperation with these expectations is GREATLY appreciated!

Students of the Month:  Congratulations to the following students for being selected as the Student of the Month for October and November:  October:  Brosnan Comeau (Junior); November:  Connor Harding (Senior).

Guidance Department Update:

The Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey will take place during the first period on Monday (11/22). The make-up session for those students who are out on 11/22 will be on Tuesday (11/23).

Seniors are encouraged to check out this 2021-2022 scholarship document! Ten new scholarships have been added within the last week!

New College Acceptances: Liam Burgess - CMCC & Taylor Truman - Saint Joseph’s College

Seniors:  If you have not submitted your FAFSA you still have time to do this! Let Mrs. Knowlton know if you need any help.

Second semester schedules are almost finalized. Mrs. Knowlton will start scheduling meetings with all students to talk about these schedules after the Thanksgiving break!

Attention Seniors: We need a class photo for the yearbook. We will meet in front of MA at 7:30 Tuesday morning (11/23). We will pose and take a photo. This is for the end sheets of the yearbook. We will not be able to photoshop people in, so please make every effort to make it! Also, we need selfies of seniors. It can be single or group, but the idea is we want some type of selfie from each of you.  All selfies must be school appropriate!

Finally, signatures. The Yearbook Committee would like  Seniors to stop by Dr. Ross's room between 11/22 and 11/23. You will be asked to sign a piece of paper so that we can put your signatures on a page in the yearbook as we have done in the past.

Reminder: Senior and Baby photos as well as quotes and messages are due by Tuesday (11/23)!  https://forms.gle/11wJkhHoRrvB97pF6

From Mr. Bell, MA AD: MA athletic teams (basketball, cheering, wrestling and coop-hockey) are starting official practices on Monday (11/22). Coaches have reached out to all that originally signed up for each sport and if you still have a student that would like to play, and hasn't heard from a coach, please let me know (stevebell@kidsrsu.org). As I described in a recent email we are going to have home fans for this season, but each player is limited to inviting four family members to each game. We will have a ticket system and assigned seating for each family. I hope this adds to the game environment, it was too quiet in the gym last winter season. Again, there will be a mask requirement for everyone that is inside the building. Thank you and if you have any questions please feel free to reach out at stevebell@kidsrsu.org or (207)-530-0605.  Thanks!

MASG & FBLA:  MASG and FBLA is holding a Citrus Fundraiser from 11/22 - 12/03. Orders can be placed online (bit.ly/masgcitrus) for the MASG or at Monmouth Academy FBLA citrus fundraiser for the FBLA and will be delivered before Christmas.

Stuff the Bus! Monmouth Memorial School has challenged  Monmouth Academy  to see who can gather the most donated goods to Stuff the Bus! Please donate non-perishable food items to your advisory groups. This will take place sometime in December so make sure you are prepared to beat MMS this year!  As always, your support and generosity is greatly appreciated!

Dates to Note:

11/22 = MIYHS Survey (make-up on 11/23)

11/22 = Opening Day of the Winter Sports Season

11/24 - 11/28 = No School - Thanksgiving Break

11/30 = Class Meetings with the Principal (times TBD)

That concludes this week’s edition of The MA Express!.  On behalf of the faculty and staff here at MA, I want to wish you and yours a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday.  Take care and stay well.

Respectfully,

Mr. Ted Finn, Principal
