MA Express 12/19/21

Greetings Mustangs!

As you all should know by now, MA will be going remote on Monday (12/20), Tuesday (12/21), and Wednesday (12/22) due to a lack of available subs.  Students are expected to login to each class at their regular scheduled times; however students are not expected to login for study halls, advisory, or lunch.

We will still be sending our CATC students to CATC on Monday and Tuesday, but not on Wednesday as all Augusta schools will be closed on 12/22.  CATC students should be at the high school by 10:45 on Monday and Tuesday.  If a CATC student needs a ride to MA to catch the CATC bus, they are asked to please notify the school (207)933-4416 by 8:00am Monday morning so we can arrange transportation.

Attention Senior Parents: I’m looking to put together a group of parents from the Class of 2022 to help plan Project Graduation.  This meeting will take place in the MA Library at 6:30pm on Tuesday (01/04) and should be no longer than 45 minutes.  If your schedule permits, I’d love to have your participation!

Yearbook Update:  Have you purchased a yearbook yet? Are you looking for a holiday gift idea? Yearbooks are still on sale! The total is $55, but the price goes up on December 23rd. Order today to lock in your price. Purchases can be made by bringing money to Dr. Ross or going to yearbookforever.com and searching for Monmouth Academy. Email eross@kidsrsu.org with any questions

Future Search:  RSU 2 is in the process of conducting a Future Search, a process in which the district will be updating and defining our district's curriculum and values. This work will allow us to identify complementary instructional models, assessments and reporting/tracking tools.  Students and staff had the opportunity to give their feedback using specific surveys this past Tuesday (12/14). Community members and recent grads are asked to go to our web webpage where you can find a link to your surveys.  If at all possible, we’d like to have the surveys completed by January 1st.  In advance, we thank you for your time and participation.

Guidance Update:  Congratulations to the following Seniors on their recent college acceptances:

Seth McKenney: CMCC; Lily Turcotte: UMO; Megan Ham: Keene State, Saint Joseph’s College, Merrimack, Franklin Pierce, Plymouth State; Ethan Handley: Wentworth Institute of Technology; Emma Gray: CMCC

Mrs. Knowlton continues to meet with students about their second semester schedules. 48% of students have met with Mrs. Knowlton at this time leaving 97 students left! If you have not met with Mrs. Knowlton and would like to set up an appointment, please email her at sknowlton@kidsrsu.org.

Please find the Monmouth Academy School Counseling Office on Facebook for information about scholarships, college acceptances, and other general School Counseling updates.

Social Media Concerns:  As many of you know, there has been a growing number of issues/concerns on various social media platforms over the past few months.  From threats of violence against schools to individual bullying and harassment, I think I can speak for all of us when I say that enough is enough.  I think it’s important for students and parents to be aware that even if a student participates in an inappropriate communication/action outside of school, there could be school consequences as well as law enforcement involvement if the issue/concern that is brought to our attention is causing a disruption at the school.  Students are asked to please refrain from posting pictures, videos, texts, or posts in general that promote any level of violence, bullying, or harassment.  I want ALL Monmouth Academy students to feel safe and secure in our school, and that means NO student should feel like they are being targeted by another student(s).  I’m looking to put together a group of students who would be willing to work with me at least once a month (starting in January) to discuss what we can do as a school to support a school culture/environment that promotes a greater level of awareness of the negative effects of cyberbullying and other inappropriate social media activities.  If you would like to be part of this group, send me an email and I will gladly send you an invitation.  Thanks!

Dates to Note:

12/20 - 12/22 = Remote Learning

12/23 - 01/02 = Winter/Holiday Break

01/04 = Project Grad Meeting (MA Library @ 6:30pm for Senior parents)

That concludes this week’s edition of The MA Express!.  The next edition will be out on Sunday (01/02).  On behalf of the faculty and staff, I’d like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday break; and nothing but health and happiness in the coming New Year!

Respectfully,

Mr. Ted Finn, Principal
