The MA Express!

Greetings Mustangs!

I’d like to begin this week’s edition of The MA Express! by giving a shout-out to our Academic Decathlon Team for being the Maine State Runner-up Team for the 2022 Maine State Academic Decathlon Championship!   The Monmouth Academy Academic Decathlon Team is now eligible to compete in the United States Academic Decathlon Championship online in April.  Congratulations to the Academic Decathlon members and their advisors (Mr. and Mrs. Foyt) for their hard work this year.  Your school & community are very proud of you!

Student/Staff/Teacher of the Month:  Congratulations to the following individuals for being selected as a Student, Staff Member, or Teacher of the Month:  For Student of the Month, we have Zeke Delorme (January); Samantha Barker (February); and Jake Umberhind (March). For Staff Member of the Month we have Mr. Mellen - Custodian (January); Mr. Landry - Custodian (February); and Ms. Sirios - Nurse (March). For Teacher of the Month we have Mrs. Littlefield - English (January); Mr. Dube - Social Studies/English (February), and Mr. Foulke - Band/Chorus (March).

Championship Parade!  There will be a parade for the MA Cheerleaders for winning the Class D State Championship along with the MVC Championship and the Regional Championship. This is the second year in a row that our Cheerleaders have won all three of these titles!  The parade will begin at 5:00pm on Wednesday (03/16) and will be followed by a reception at the high school.  I want to thank (in advance) our local Police and Fire Departments along with our Transportation Department, Athletic Department, and our amazing Sports Boosters for their support in making this event possible!  If your schedule permits, please come cheer on our Cheerleaders for their accomplishments this past season.

Volunteer Opportunities: The Annabessacook Lake Improvement Association sends out a yearly newsletter. The person that usually puts it out has retired and we are looking for someone to take up the newsletter set up. We were hoping there might be a student that needs community service that is going into graphic arts or something close that would like the hours to help us out.

Guidance Update:

Monmouth Academy is looking into  administering the SAT on April 26, 2022. This is a school day testing date, which provides the opportunity for Juniors to participate in this OPTIONAL SAT test. Say NO to Bullying!  Quote of the week: “Knowing what’s right doesn’t mean much unless you do what’s right.”  (Theodore Roosevelt) If you are experiencing bullying directly or if you see it happening to someone else, please report it to a staff member or administrator immediately.  Thank you!

Winter Carnival Week Is Here!  Winter Carnival - 2022 is scheduled to take place this week (03/14 - 03/17).  The Winter Carnival Handbook was sent out two weeks ago to all students and staff (and has been updated a couple of times since then) so please take the time to review that document.  Students are reminded that all school rules are still in effect during Winter Carnival.  Whether you are participating in a dress-up theme day; whether you are part of your class dance, class movie, hallway decorating, etc. please keep in mind safety and school appropriateness at all times.

Activities will take place after school on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (from 2:30 - 3:30; except for the hall decorating which will take place on Monday & Tuesday from 2:30 - 4:00/4:30).  We will have a day full of class competitions on Thursday from 7:45 - 2:25. If you have any questions or concerns about WC Week, please direct them to your assigned Class Coach first before going to the MA Student Government Advisors, Mr. Pascarella or Ms. Menace.  Remember good sportsmanship and teamwork; and have a GREAT time!

CATC students will not be required to attend CATC on Thursday - 03/17 so that they can participate in the Winter Carnival activities with their peers.

Winter Carnival Dance:  This semi-formal dance will take place on 03/17 from 7:00pm - 10:00pm.  Doors will open at 7:00 and no one will be allowed in after 8:00pm.  Admission is $3 per student (or $5 per couple). Once a student leaves the dance, they will not be allowed back in.  Students are asked to have their rides ready to pick them up by 10:00pm.  Guest forms were due by last Friday (03/11).  Note:  Students are required to keep footwear on during the dance. Students will not be allowed to go barefoot or to just have socks on for safety and health reasons. If you think your shoes are going to be uncomfortable to dance in or wear as the evening goes along, please bring a back-up pair of something more comfortable/appropriate to wear. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Pool Testing:  Will continue (for those students and staff who have registered for it) this week on Wednesday (03/16).  Testing will take place on the stage right after block 1 (between 8:40 - 9:00).

Attention Juniors:  If you are interested in taking the SAT exam at Monmouth Academy on Tuesday, April 26th, please let Mrs. Knowlton know by Wednesday, March 16th.  We need to know how many tests to order.  Thanks!

Attention Seniors:   I will be sending out a separate email sometime this week which will include important end of the year information and dates for planning purposes.  This will also be emailed to Senior parents.  Please take the time to review that information and connect with me if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Spring Sports Season: Any student who has not signed up to participate in a Spring sport but is interested is asked to connect with Mr. Bell ASAP.  The season is about to begin.  If you are in need of a sports physical or if you have any questions about our Spring athletic program, you are asked to connect with Mr. Bell (our Athletic Director).

FBLA State Conference:  I would like to wish our FBLA Team the very best as they participate in the FBLA State Conference on Friday - 03/18 at CMCC.  The team has been testing and presenting last week and will continue this week in preparation for Friday’s event.  Go FBLA!!!!

CATC Parking Passes:  Those CATC students who have approval (from/by CATC) to drive to CATC are required to have a parking pass (given by CATC).  If you have any questions or concerns about driving/parking at CATC, please direct those questions to CATC.  Thanks!

Hall Passes:  We are going back to requiring students to have a hall pass when they are traveling throughout the school. If a student needs to see another teacher or staff member, they are required to have a pass in advance from that teacher/staff member. Students going to the restroom should not only sign-out/in on the restroom log sheet, but they should also have a pass of some sort from the teacher they are with.  A restroom pass will also be issued to students who are in the Cafeteria during their assigned lunch block. Thanks!
