The MA Express!

Greetings Mustangs!

I’d like to begin this week’s edition of The MA Express! by giving a shout-out to our Student Government, advised by Mr. Pascarella and Ms. Menice, for planning & organizing an INCREDIBLE Winter Carnival last week for our school.  This was capped off with a Winter Carnival Dance on Thursday evening (03/17) in which 90 students attended.  It was so good to see classes coming together to compete with each other; building some much needed class bonding which ultimately contributed to a strong level of  school pride and spirit!  A special thanks to all staff who contributed in supervising the after school activities last week as well as the all-day activities on Thursday (to include the dance as well).  Congratulations to the Class of 2023 for winning Winter Carnival - ‘22!

I also want to congratulate our FBLA Team (Future Business Leaders of America) and their advisor, Mrs. Neal, for representing MA with great class & pride!  Our team took 2nd place at the FBLA State Championship held at Central Maine Community College this past Friday (03/18).  Our team walked away with many individual and group awards.  Job well done, Mustangs!

A Special Thank You:  I want to thank the Monmouth Police & Fire Departments for their contribution to the Championship Parade we had for our Class D State Cheering Champions this past Wednesday afternoon.  A special thanks to all who were able to come out and cheer for our cheerleaders as it meant a great deal to them.  To our Sports Boosters, our AD (Mr. Bell), and our Transportation Department, THANK YOU for organizing this event!

Volunteer Opportunities: The Annabessacook Lake Improvement Association sends out a yearly newsletter. The person that usually puts it out has retired and we are looking for someone to take up the newsletter set up. We were hoping there might be a student that needs community service that is going into graphic arts or something close that would like the hours to help us out. For more information, please see Mrs. Knowlton in the Guidance Department.

Our team is part of the Maine Civil Rights Team Project (CRTP) whose mission is to increase the safety of elementary, middle, and high school students by reducing bias-motivated behaviors and harassment in our schools.  ALL students are invited and encouraged to be part of this team!  For more information, please connect with Ms. Darrell and/or Mr. Shain.

Say NO to Bullying!  Quote of the week: “ Before you speak, THINK:  T = Is it true?  H = Is it helpful?  I = Is it inspiring?  N = Is it necessary?  K = Is it kind?”  If you are experiencing bullying directly or if you see it happening to someone else, please report it to a staff member or administrator immediately.  Thank you!

Pool Testing:  Will continue for those students and staff who have registered for it this week on Wednesday (03/23).  Testing will take place on the stage right after block 1 (between 8:40 - 9:00).

Attention Seniors:   I emailed a letter to all Seniors and their parents/guardians on Wednesday (03/16) containing important end of the year information and dates for planning purposes.  Please take the time to review that information and connect with me if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Special Editions:  Last week, Mr. Bell and I sent out the Winter Sports Special Edition of The MA Express! to all students, parents, and staff.  We will be following that up with another Special Edition with the spotlight on our extra-curricular activities/clubs/teams within the next week or two.  Stay tuned!

Cinco De Mayo Celebration:  Monmouth Memorial  Middle School Spanish classes have had a great tradition of celebrating Cinco De Mayo.  This year we would like to continue that tradition at Monmouth Academy.  We are going to have a meeting with those students who want to take part in the planning of this event at 2:35 on Tuesday March 22.   Come with your best and most fun ideas!  We will meet in the Spanish classroom.
