The MA Express!

Greetings Mustangs!

I hope you all had an AMAZING April break!  When we return to school on Monday (04/25), it will be a maroon day.  Our Seniors are down to 23.5 school days remaining; all other students have 37 school days left in the 2021-22 school year!  Let’s keep our focus and finish up on a strong note.  If you find yourself in need of any type of support, please don’t hesitate to connect with a staff member, your school counselor, or an administrator as we are here for YOU!

Senior Grades:  Seniors are reminded that they will have until 7:45am this coming Wednesday (04/27) to get work turned in that could very well determine whether or not they will have earned Summa Cum Laude recognition or Honors recognition for Graduation.  Teachers of Seniors will have until 7:45am on Friday (04/29) to communicate any grade changes to Mrs. Knowlton.  I need to inform the MVC as to which Seniors will be getting recognized at the MVC Honors Banquet (scheduled for 05/12) before the end of the school day on Friday (04/29).

Senior Capstone Presentations:  Will be taking place on Friday - 05/13.  Seniors are reminded that this is a graduation requirement.  Any Senior needing assistance with their project should connect with their Senior Capstone teacher before the presentation date.

MOBY Update: Students in grades 9 and 10 will be receiving informational paperwork and the permission slip to attend MOBY during the week of May 16th on Monday (04/25).  Students in grade 9 will be leaving on Monday (05/16) and will be returning by 2:30 on Wednesday (05/18).  Students in grade 10 will be leaving on Wednesday (05/18) and will be returning by 2:30 on Friday (05/20).  There will be an informational meeting for parents about MOBY on Thursday (04/28) at 5:30pm in the high school cafeteria with Mr. Schultz.  Please direct any questions or concerns about MOBY to Mr. Schultz.  Thanks!

Guidance Update:

Optional School Day SAT:  For those Juniors who have pre-registered, the SAT will be offered on Tuesday (04/26) between the hours of 7:15am - 12:00pm.  Testing will take place in the Band/Chorus Room.  If you have any questions, please connect with Mrs. Knowlton prior to the testing date.

NWEAs: Students in grades 9 - 11 will be taking the NWEAs on 05/03, 05/04, and 05/05.  An informational letter about the NWEAs was sent out to all parents/guardians the week prior to the April break.  If you have any questions, please contact our Guidance Department.

New Meridian Science Assessment:  This is the State of Maine science assessment that all Juniors are expected to complete.  It will be administered between 05/17 - 05/19.  Information about this assessment was included in the NWEA letter that went out prior to the April break.

AP Calculus Exam:  To be administered on 05/09 between 7:30am - 12:00pm.

AP Biology Exam:  To be administered on 05/11 between 11:30am - 4:00pm.

Civil Rights Team:   The next Civil Rights Team meeting is scheduled for Monday (04/25) at 2:30pm in the Art Room. Our team is part of the Maine Civil Rights Team Project (CRTP) whose mission is to increase the safety of elementary, middle, and high school students by reducing bias-motivated behaviors and harassment in our schools.  ALL students are invited and encouraged to be part of this team!  For more information, please connect with Ms. Darrell and/or Mr. Shain.

Say NO to Bullying!  Quote of the week: “Wrong is wrong, even if everyone  is doing it; right is right, even if no one  is doing it.” If you are experiencing bullying directly or if you see it happening to someone else, please report it to a staff member or administrator immediately.  I want to thank Chief Paul Ferland (Monmouth PD) and the District Attorney’s Office for presenting information to our students just prior to the April break on what constitutes a crime in Maine; and for discussing topics such as bullying, cyber bullying, inappropriate use of technology to include texting, emailing, and the internet in general.  I hope students walked away with a better understanding of how teenagers can/will be held accountable for their actions should they choose to participate in any illegal/inappropriate activities.

Pool Testing:  Is winding down next month.  We will test again on Wednesday (04/27) right after period 1 on the stage.

Graduation Marshalls:  Any Junior who is interested in serving as a Class Marshall for the Class of 2022 is asked to send me an email (tfinn@kidsrsu.org) letting me know that you are interested by the end of the school day on Tuesday (04/26).  There will be tryouts for these two positions in addition to rehearsals with Mrs. Gifford.
