The MA Express!

Greetings Mustangs!

We are about to begin the final academic week of school for the MA Class of 2022! Seniors are now down to 4 school days remaining as their last academic school day will be on Thursday - May 26th.  Note: Seniors have until 3:00pm on Wednesday - June 1st to meet all graduation requirements in order to participate in our graduation week activities - to include graduation. All other students have 15 school days left in the 2021-22 school year as the last regular academic day for underclassmen (for those who are not on the BPL and have met all of their course requirements) will be Monday - June 13th.  Underclassmen needing additional time to meet their course requirements and/or to raise the scores in any of their classes will have until 11:30am on Thursday - June 16th (the last day of school for all students and staff).  Let’s keep our focus and finish up on a strong note.  If you find yourself in need of any type of support, please don’t hesitate to connect with a staff member, your school counselor, or an administrator as we are here for YOU!

NHS Induction Ceremony & Spring Concert: Our National Honor Society Induction Ceremony will take place on Monday (05/23) beginning at 7:00pm in the MA Gym.  Our Spring Concert (featuring the MA Band and Chorus) will take place on Tuesday evening (05/24) beginning at 7:00pm in the MA Cafeteria.  All are invited to attend!

CATC:  The last day of school at CATC for MA Seniors will be on Thursday (05/26).  The last day of CATC for Juniors will be on Monday (06/13).

Attention Seniors:   I sent an email to you with some updated important information to include dates, times, and events for the next couple of weeks.  PLEASE make sure you have reviewed that email and let me know if you have any questions.  There will be a Senior class meeting on Thursday morning (05/26) in the gym beginning at 8:15.  All Seniors are expected to be in attendance for this meeting.  Thank you!

MAD Players:  The Monmouth Academy Drama Club presents:  Unprecedented Times: Students Reflections from the Pandemic.  This will take place at Cumston Hall on 05/26, 05/27, & 05/28 (each night starting at 7:00pm).  Admission is $3 for students and $5 for adults.  Your support is greatly appreciated!

Prom - 2022:  I want to give a huge SHOUT OUT and THANK YOU to Ms. Littlefield for planning and organizing a quality first class Prom for our Juniors, Seniors, and their guests this past Saturday evening at the Vista of Maine located in Greene, ME .  A special thanks to Ms. Neal, Ms. Simpson, Ms. Darrell, Ms. Alonso, and Mr. Bell for assisting me with the Prom supervision.  Our students really seemed to enjoy themselves. It was nice to see everyone all dressed up; smiling, laughing,  and having a great time!

Cinco De Mayo Celebration Event:  On May 26th, MA students and staff are invited to celebrate the "Cinco de Mayo" exhibition put on by the MMS and MA Spanish classes.  The show will take place from 1:00 to 2:00pm in our gym.  We fully understand that some students and staff may not be able to attend this event because they have other obligations; however all are invited to attend this optional event.

This program will be an opportunity to share another culture's traditions. It should also be a lot of fun and a chance to collaborate with the students from our middle school.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Ms. Alonso.

School Budget Meetings:  For planning purposes, the RSU 2 district-wide budget meeting is scheduled for Thursday (05/26) at Monmouth Academy beginning at 6:00pm.  This meeting is in-person only.

Laptop Collection:  All Seniors are to turn in their school issued laptops on 05/26 or 05/27.  All other MA students will need to turn their laptops in on Friday (06/10).  If there is a need to keep a laptop beyond the collection date, the student must connect with Mr. Brown at kbrown@kidsrsu.org before the collection date for approval and to make those arrangements.  Mr. Brown did send out an email to all students this past week explaining how the collection process is going to work.  Please check your email and review that communication from Mr. Brown as it has all the information you need for a smooth process.

MOBY: I want to thank (one last time) the following staff for providing this traditional educational experience for our freshmen and sophomores this past week:  Mr. Schultz, Mr. Warren, Ms. Small, Mr. Dube, Ms. Sirois (Nurse); Mr. Westberry (grade 9 trip); and Ms. Bauer (grade 10 trip).  I also want to thank Mr. Witherell and Mr. Foulke for serving as bus supervisors on Wednesday (up with the sophomores and back with the freshmen).  Finally, to our AMAZING subs and the rest of the MA staff who stepped up and helped with the coverage last week, THANK YOU for coming together as a team for our students and school!

Civil Rights Team:   The next Civil Rights Team meeting is scheduled for Monday (05/23) at 2:30pm in the Art Room. Our team is part of the Maine Civil Rights Team Project (CRTP) whose mission is to increase the safety of elementary, middle, and high school students by reducing bias-motivated behaviors and harassment in our schools.  ALL students are invited and encouraged to be part of this team!  For more information, please connect with Ms. Darrell and/or Mr. Shain.

On Wednesday (05/25) during advisory, members of our Civil Rights Team and Student Government will be facilitating discussions on what we can/should be doing at MA to ensure we have a more positive and  inclusive school environment for ALL students and staff.  This is a great opportunity to share your thoughts and opinions (appropriately and respectfully of course).  In advance, I want to thank our Civil Rights Team and Student Government members who will be facilitating these conversations.

Say NO to Bullying!  Quote of the week: “Get involved and make a difference for the better!”  If you are experiencing bullying directly or if you see it happening to someone else, please report it to a staff member and/or administrator immediately.

Travel Abroad: We have something for you to look forward to in 2023: an exciting trip to Italy!  Students who will be in grades 9-12 in the 22-23 school year are eligible to travel.  Parents and grandparents are also welcome.  This will be the 27th trip that Mrs. Arsenault has done with MA students; and Italy is one of her favorite destinations! There will be an important informational meeting about Italy on Wednesday, May 25 at 6:30pm; and it will be virtual.  It is important that if you are interested in this trip and want to attend the meeting--you will need to RSVP to the link below so that Mrs. Arsenault can send you a link to the meeting by Wednesday morning.  https://bit.ly/3l8ipdV

This trip will take place during April vacation in 2023.  Mrs. Arsenault will be able to answer all of your questions at the meeting. She looks forward to meeting you and talking about this exciting adventure. If you have any questions,  please email her at carsenault@kidsrsu.org or stop by her room.
