The MA Express!

Greetings Mustangs!

April is here!  We have nine school days remaining until the April break which runs from Friday - 04/14 through Sunday - 04/23.  Grades closed on Friday - 03/31 for the mid-semester progress reports.  Teachers will have until 04/05 to get their grades posted into IC; then the Guidance Department will verify grades and produce the reports between 04/05 - 04/07.  Progress Reports should be mailed out between 04/07 - 04/10.  For our Seniors, we will be closing grades again this coming Friday (04/07) for the purpose of identifying the Class of 2023 Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and those who have earned Summa Cum Laude Honors recognition for graduation.  We will make these announcements at the Recognition Assembly scheduled to take place on Thursday - 04/13.

Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences:  These conferences are scheduled to take place on Thursday (04/13) from 4:00 - 5:00 and 5:30 - 8:00.  These conferences will be in-person; and parents will have the opportunity to sign-up for their conferences as of last week.  If you have any questions, please contact Lisa McDonald at the MA Main Office.

Guidance News:

  • SCHOLARSHIPS! Mrs. Knowlton added four new scholarships on 3/24/23, and there are plenty more with upcoming deadlines. Please check out the document here!

  • If you haven’t already done so, please let Mrs. Knowlton know as soon as possible if you wish to attend CATC next year, and what program you are looking forward to. Interviews have been scheduled and Mrs. Knowlton will be submitting the CATC wish list on April 1, 2023.

Opportunities:

  • DIRIGO STATE is a unique summertime educational program that does not emphasize classroom lecture and textbook learning. Instead, it focuses on experiential learning in a model state, complete with governing bodies and elected public officials. Students will spend a week participating in the same political and governmental process as citizens and public officials of the State of Maine. Please see your email for more information.

Civil Rights Team:  Our school is part of the Maine Civil Rights Team Project (CRTP) whose mission is to increase the safety of elementary, middle, and high school students by reducing bias-motivated behaviors and harassment in our schools.  ALL students are invited and encouraged to be part of this team!  For more information, please connect with Ms. Darrell and/or Mr. Shain.

NHS & FBLA Community Service Event on 04/01: The NHS & FBLA Groups put on a special community spring block party this past Saturday (04/01).  The event went very well and both NHS and FBLA members did a wonderful job with the children who attended.  They  made crafts, played giant Jenga,  bowled, had donuts in a string, played corn hole and shot hoops.  Of course there were pictures with the Easter bunny who also played games with them.  They enjoyed a pancake breakfast and a movie .  We did not have a big turnout as the weather was miserable, but those who came enjoyed it!  We are very proud of our students for their positive influence on the younger children.  The parents who were there were appreciative of our students’ efforts.  Well done and thank you NHS & FBLA!

Say NO to Bullying!  Bullying is NEVER OK, and has NO place at MA.  If you or someone you know is experiencing any type of bullying or harassment (directly or indirectly), please let a teacher, staff member, or administrator know immediately.  We take great pride in maintaining a school environment in which ALL students and staff can feel safe and secure.  As it’s been said before, “If you ignore it, you approve it.”  Please join me in making our school a bully-free zone.  Thank you!

From the Librarian:  Use your Advisory time to make something fun and/or learn something new. The Makerspace has a 3D printer, vinyl cutter, Cricut and much more! Come explore your opportunities! Space is limited, please send an email to Lpinkham@kidsrsu.org to reserve your spot!
