The MA Express!

Greetings Mustangs!

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful weekend! The mid-semester progress reports for the 2nd semester were set to be mailed out as of Friday (04/07).  If you have any questions or concerns about your current grade in any class, please connect with the teacher first as they can best explain why the grade is what it is.  The next round of eligibility checks will take place on Tuesday (4/11), and all students will receive a hard-copy of their eligibility report during advisory on Wednesday (04/12).

Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences:  These conferences are scheduled to take place on Thursday (04/13) from 4:00 - 5:00 and 5:30 - 8:00.  These conferences will be in-person; and parents have had the opportunity to sign-up for their conferences as of 03/29.  If you have any questions, please contact Lisa McDonald at the MA Main Office.  Note: There will be a special School Board meeting on Thursday (04/13) for the Board to vote on the  proposed 2023-2024 budget before it goes out to each town to review, discuss, and vote on which may result in some teachers not being available to meet on Thursday evening.  If that is the case,  those teachers wanting to be at the Board meeting will be asked to connect with any parent who had scheduled a conference with them and to reschedule that conference at a time that works best for both the parent and teacher.

April Recognition Assembly:  Our next Students of the Month; Support Staff of the Month; and Teacher of the Month assembly will take place on Thursday (04/13) from 9:30 - 9:50.  At this assembly, we are hoping to recognize the Class of 2023 Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and those Seniors who have earned Summa Cum Laude Honors recognition for graduation.  We will also be recognizing students who were nominated by their teachers as being the most improved for the 2022-2023 school year and those students will be receiving a certificate and ticket to a Portland Sea Dogs game (compliments of the Portland Sea Dogs).

SATs:  Those students who registered in advance to take the SATs will do so on Wednesday (04/12) beginning at 7:45am in the Music Room (which will be set-up for this testing).  Again, this will only be for those students who registered in advance as we had to order the testing materials based on the number of registrations.  Best of luck to those students who will be testing!

FAME Presentation:  The Financial Authority of Maine (FAME) will be doing a presentation for all Juniors on Monday (04/10) during blocks 4A and 4B.  Juniors will be allowed to get their lunch at 11:50, and will then be asked to report to their advisory group for this presentation which is scheduled to run from 12:00 - 1:00.  If you have any questions, please connect with Mrs. Knowlton.

Guidance News:

  • SCHOLARSHIPS: Mrs. Knowlton added four new scholarships on 3/24/23, and there are plenty more with upcoming deadlines. Please check out the document here!

  • If you haven’t already done so, please let Mrs. Knowlton know as soon as possible if you wish to attend CATC next year, and what program you are looking forward to. Interviews have been scheduled and Mrs. Knowlton will be submitting the CATC wish list on April 1, 2023.

  • DIRIGO STATE is a unique summertime educational program that does not emphasize classroom lecture and textbook learning. Instead, it focuses on experiential learning in a model state, complete with governing bodies and elected public officials. Students will spend a week participating in the same political and governmental process as citizens and public officials of the State of Maine. Please see your email for more information.

Civil Rights Team:  Our school is part of the Maine Civil Rights Team Project (CRTP) whose mission is to increase the safety of elementary, middle, and high school students by reducing bias-motivated behaviors and harassment in our schools.  ALL students are invited and encouraged to be part of this team!  For more information, please connect with Ms. Darrell and/or Mr. Shain.

Say NO to Bullying!  Bullying is NEVER OK, and has NO place at MA.  If you or someone you know is experiencing any type of bullying or harassment (directly or indirectly), please let a teacher, staff member, or administrator know immediately.  We take great pride in maintaining a school environment in which ALL students and staff can feel safe and secure.  As it’s been said before, “If you ignore it, you approve it.”  Please join me in making our school a bully-free zone.  Thank you!

April Break: There is no school from Friday (04/14) through Sunday (04/23) as it is our April break.  The Main Office and Guidance Office at MA will be closed during that vacation week. When we return to school on Monday (04/24), it will be a white day.

VEX Robotics:  Five members of the MA Vex Robotics Team will be representing our school at the National Vex Robotics Competition the week of April 24th in Texas!  We want to wish these individuals the very best as they compete against teams from across the country!

April Break Tutoring: Mrs. Wells is making herself available to tutor any student interested (remotely and by appointment only) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of the April vacation week.  If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Mrs. Wells at lwells@kidsrsu.org.

Senior Letter:  The annual Senior Letter was included in the Senior progress reports; emailed to all Seniors; and sent to all Senior parents via IC Messenger.  Please be sure to read that if you haven’t done so already as there is quite a bit scheduled between now and graduation.  As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Main Office.
