The MA Express!

Greetings Mustangs!

I hope you had an enjoyable and restful April vacation.  We are now officially into the final stretch of the 2022-2023 school year!  Believe it or not, our Seniors only have 29 school days remaining; and all other students have only 39 school days to go!  With that in mind, we have a LOT going on between now and the end of the year, so please be sure to keep up with these weekly newsletters.  Also, all Senior parents/guardians should have received a copy of a letter I sent back on 04/07 pertaining to all end of the year events/activities for our Seniors.  If you didn’t get that, please contact Lisa McDonald in the Main Office and she’ll gladly send you another copy.  We will be sending out an end of the year events/activities letter to all MA parents/guardians on/around May 1st.

Daily Schedule:

Monday (04/24) = White Day

Tuesday (04/25) = Maroon Day

Wednesday (04/26) = White Day

Thursday (04/27) = Maroon Day

Friday (04/28) = White Day

Mid-Semester Progress Reports:  These reports were mailed out on 04/07.  We also did eligibility checks on 04/12 with the next round of checks scheduled to take place on 05/03 (which will be based on student performance from 04/12 - 05/02).  If you have any questions or concerns, please start with the teacher(s) first as they can best answer any questions you may have about current academic standing/performance.

Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences:  Took place the Thursday prior to the April break (04/13).  Any parent/guardian who was unable to connect with a teacher(s) and have questions/concerns is asked to please connect with that teacher(s) either through email or by calling the school.

VEX Robotics:  Five members of the MA Vex Robotics Team will be representing our school at the Vex Robotics World Championship this week in Dallas, Texas. We want to wish these individuals (led by Mr. Seth Mitchell) the very best as they compete against teams from across the country and around the world!

Senior Laptop Inspections:  Our Tech Department will be conducting inspections of all Senior laptops, chargers, charging blocks, and carrying cases on Tuesday (04/25) in the basement level Conference Room.  Seniors should have received an email from Mr. Kyle Brown explaining how this process is going to work.  If you have any questions, please connect with Mr. Brown.

MVC Honors Banquet:  Those Seniors who were recognized at the assembly on 04/13 for earning the distinction of Summa Cum Laude and their immediate family members are invited to attend the MVC Honors Banquet scheduled for Tuesday (05/02).  This event will take place in the MA Cafeteria and will include a dinner from 5:30 - 6:00 followed by the MVC Honors Presentation (via Zoom) beginning at 6:00pm sharp.  A special congratulations to these Seniors and their families!

Guidance News:

  • SCHOLARSHIPS: Please check out the document here!

  • DIRIGO STATE is a unique summertime educational program that does not emphasize classroom lecture and textbook learning. Instead, it focuses on experiential learning in a model state, complete with governing bodies and elected public officials. Students will spend a week participating in the same political and governmental process as citizens and public officials of the State of Maine. Please see your email for more information.

Dress Code: With the warmer weather arriving, I’d like to remind all students of the dress code that we have a MA.  Students and staff are responsible for wearing clothing that is appropriate for a school environment.  Wearing clothes with drug, alcohol, hate speech, racist, homophobic, sexist, profane, violent, sexual and discriminatory, or inappropriate language is under no circumstances permitted at Monmouth Academy.

Examples of inappropriate clothing for a school environment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Clothing that is overly revealing allowing the chest, abdomen, buttocks, or underwear to be visible

  • Undergarments, bathing suits, pajamas, or other similar clothing

  • Clothing that promotes illegal substances or activities, or advertise tobacco or alcohol

  • Clothing that contains messages that degrade others or could be interpreted as harassing others

  • Clothing and/or accessories that is unsafe or potentially unsafe

  • Appropriate shoes must be worn at all times (appropriate: safe, do no harm flooring, etc.)

  • Any article of clothing that disrupts the educational process is not permit

Civil Rights Team:  Our school is part of the Maine Civil Rights Team Project (CRTP) whose mission is to increase the safety of elementary, middle, and high school students by reducing bias-motivated behaviors and harassment in our schools.  ALL students are invited and encouraged to be part of this team!  For more information, please connect with Ms. Darrell and/or Mr. Shain.

Say NO to Bullying!  Bullying is NEVER OK, and has NO place at MA.  If you or someone you know is experiencing any type of bullying or harassment (directly or indirectly), please let a teacher, staff member, or administrator know immediately.  We take great pride in maintaining a school environment in which ALL students and staff can feel safe and secure.  As it’s been said before, “If you ignore it, you approve it.”  Please join me in making our school a bully-free zone.  Thank you!
