The MA Express!

Greetings Mustangs!

I hope you all enjoyed the three-day weekend.  We have seven school days remaining before the Thanksgiving break, so I’d like to ask all students to keep their focus on their academics and to finish this stretch on a positive note!

Congratulations:  The following students and staff members were recognized as either Students of the Month; Staff Member of the Month; or Teacher of the Month for the month of October at an assembly we had on Thursday (11/10):

Grade 09:  Eva Poulin

Grade 10:  Melody-Rose Anthony

Grade 11:  Patrick Strout

Grade 12:  Grace Levesque

Staff Member:  Ms. Wanda Curtis

Teacher: Ms. Alyssa Littlefield

We also recognized a number of Seniors who have been accepted to colleges, and presented a certificate to Holly Hunt who was selected as the Monmouth Academy school level Heisman winner for 2022!  Job well done!

Mid Semester Progress Reports:  Progress Reports were mailed home on Thursday (11/10).  In addition to the Progress Reports, those students in grades 9 and 10 who took the NWEA will be receiving their score report from the NWEA; and any student who met the criteria of being chronically absent from school (as defined by the State of Maine) will also receive a notification of that status.  If you have any questions about the progress report itself, please connect with your teachers.  If you have any questions about the NWEA report or the chronic absenteeism letter, please connect with the Guidance Department.

Any student who received a grade below a 2.5 in any class as of 11/08 should have received an email from me last Wednesday (11/09) letting them know that it is their responsibility to connect with their teacher(s) to develop a plan to get back up to at least a 2.5 on/before November 28th (which is the date that ineligibility consequences will kick in for sports and other co-curricular activities).  Again, I can’t stress enough the importance of connecting with the teacher(s) directly for any class that you may find yourself struggling.  We are here for you and we want you to be successful!

Parent/Teacher Conferences:  MA will be hosting our Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday (11/17) between 4:00pm - 8:00pm.  Please use the following registration link to schedule your conferences: https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Monmouth_Academy_1

Instructions for parents who need help signing up can be accessed here: https://bit.ly/ma_ptc

We will be putting on a complimentary spaghetti supper for parents/family members (up to 175) during the Parent/Teacher Conferences (between 5:00pm - 6:00pm) in the Cafeteria.

Picture Retake Day:  Lifetouch will be back on Tuesday (11/15) for Picture Retake Day between 8:00am - 9:00am.  Any student or staff members who didn’t get their picture taken the first time around or who is looking for a retake may do so on Tuesday morning.  If you have any questions, please connect with Ms. Hewitt in the Main Office.

Project Grad Meeting:  There will be a Class of 2023 Project Grad meeting for any interested Senior parent (and Seniors) on Wednesday (11/16) at 6:00pm in the Library.  Depending on the level of attendance, we may move this meeting to the Cafeteria.

Fall Drama Production: The MAD Players (our drama program) is excited to present The Internet is a Distract...Oh Look, a Kitten! onThursday, Friday, and Saturday (11/17 - 11/19) at Cumston Hall.  The show will start at 7:00pm each night, and everyone is invited to attend what is sure to be a GREAT show!  Admission is $10 for adults; and $3 for students with a food donation. Your support is GREATLY appreciated!

Guidance Update:

We only had six students sign-up for the College and Career Fair being sponsored by Cony HS and CATC on Friday (11/18).  Those students will be receiving a permission form for their parents to sign and we ask that they return the form to Guidance ASAP (before 11/18).

Scholarships for Seniors: Mrs. Knowlton has added a few scholarships to the list, some of them are pretty big! Check out the document  attached and let her know if you have any questions!

Civil Rights Team:  Our team is part of the Maine Civil Rights Team Project (CRTP) whose mission is to increase the safety of elementary, middle, and high school students by reducing bias-motivated behaviors and harassment in our schools.  ALL students are invited and encouraged to be part of this team!  For more information, please connect with Ms. Darrell and/or Mr. Shain.

Say NO to Bullying!  Bullying is NEVER OK, and has NO place at MA.  If you or someone you know is experiencing any type of bullying or harassment (directly or indirectly), please let a teacher, staff member, or administrator know immediately.  We take great pride in maintaining a school environment in which ALL students and staff can feel safe and secure.  As it’s been said before, “If you ignore it, you approve it.”  Please join me in making our school a bully-free zone.  Thank you!

Anti-Bullying Quote of the Week:  Stay true to yourself. An original is worth more than a copy.”

Privileges:  Seniors have had Senior Privileges since the end of September.  Juniors were eligible for Junior Privileges beginning last Monday (11/07) assuming they have completed and returned the appropriate paperwork AND that they are meeting all eligibility requirements.  Any Junior or Senior with privileges who choose to leave campus are reminded that it is their responsibility to sign-out/sign-in at the Main Office.  Any Junior or Senior who has a grade below a 2.5 in any class beginning on Monday (11/14) will have their privileges revoked until they can get their grade(s) back up to at least a 2.5.

Thanksgiving Break:  Our Thanksgiving break will run from Wednesday (11/23) through Sunday (11/27).  When we return to school on Monday (11/28), it will be a maroon day.

That concludes this week’s edition of The MA Express!  Take care and stay well.

Respectfully,

 Mr. Ted Finn, Principal
