The MA Express!

Greetings Mustangs!

The first week of school for 2023 is in the books!  We have 7.5 school days remaining until the 1st semester comes to an end (Friday - 01/20).  Any student athlete who had a grade below a 2.5 on the December 18th grade checks had until today (01/06) to get their grade(s) up to at least a 2.5 or beginning on Monday (01/09), they are not eligible to participate in any scheduled game until they can get their grade(s) up to at least a 2.5.  All students have been told multiple times throughout this school year that passing is a 3.0 or better.  The first semester report cards will be out sometime between 01/27 - 01/30.  We will check grades (for eligibility again) on 01/30.

For Planning Purposes:  The Senior Capstone Presentations for those Seniors in the current Senior Capstone class will take place on Thursday morning (01/12).  We will be running a modified maroon day schedule on Thursday so that students and staff will be able to observe these Senior presentations.  Our next early release will be on Friday (01/13).  There will be no PM CATC on the 13th; and our students will be dismissed at 11:20.  There is no school on Monday (01/16) in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

Guidance Update:  Seniors - please remember to check out the scholarship document for new and updated scholarships. This can be found here.  Seniors are also reminded to please submit your college acceptances to guidance for recognition! The bulletin board is up, notifications are being posted to Facebook, and your name could be added to the lobby display of announcements!

There are two HUGE scholarships that are now open and accepting applications.

    • Seniors of Maine public high schools planning to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the fall may apply. Applicants must be about to begin the first year of a two-year or four-year degree program at an accredited college or university.

Attention Senior Parents:  We are ready to sell our ad space to recognize the members of the Senior class. We have four options available this year for families to honor their Senior: You can get a 1/8 of a page ad (about a business card) for $30, a 1/4 page ad for $50, a 1/2 page ad for $80, or a full page ad for $150. You are able to design your own ad, or send photos and messages in and we will design one for you. You can order through email, send an envelope in with your Senior, or go online to yearbookforever.com. Orders and payments are on a first come, first served basis for the space we have. Everything is due to Dr. Ross by February 14.  If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Ross at eross@kidsrsu.org.  Thanks!

Yearbook Update:  Yearbook orders are due by January 28. They now cost $60 each. Please bring at least a $15 deposit to Dr. Ross if you want to order one. We are not able to order extras and this is our order deadline. If you don't order one by 1/28/23, you may not get one this year. Email eross@kidsrsu.org if you have any questions.

Civil Rights Team:  Our school is part of the Maine Civil Rights Team Project (CRTP) whose mission is to increase the safety of elementary, middle, and high school students by reducing bias-motivated behaviors and harassment in our schools.  ALL students are invited and encouraged to be part of this team!  For more information, please connect with Ms. Darrell and/or Mr. Shain.

Say NO to Bullying!  Bullying is NEVER OK, and has NO place at MA.  If you or someone you know is experiencing any type of bullying or harassment (directly or indirectly), please let a teacher, staff member, or administrator know immediately.  We take great pride in maintaining a school environment in which ALL students and staff can feel safe and secure.  As it’s been said before, “If you ignore it, you approve it.”  Please join me in making our school a bully-free zone.  Thank you!

Anti-Bullying Quote of the Week:  “Be somebody who makes everyone feel like a somebody.”

Service Project Request: Wednesday (01/11) is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. As a member of NHS, Mallory Langlois is raising awareness for human trafficking as part of her individual service project.
