Dear Dresden Community,
While there is some sense of relief in learning the search is over, we are all deeply saddened by the tragic events of the shootings in Lewiston and the loss of so many innocent lives. Many of us have been directly impacted by this tragedy in one way or another, and my sincerest condolences go out to the families, friends and colleagues of those that have lost a loved one.
The safety and wellbeing of our communities remains a top priority. Our district leaders have developed safety protocols and procedures in place for return to school on Monday, which may include a police presence. With the search only recently coming to an end, we must turn our focus to healing. To allow our families and staff an opportunity to prioritize well-being, we will postpone the Board’s initial community gathering that was scheduled for Monday evening, 30 October 2023 at Dresden Elementary School.
I have asked team members to work with Dresden community leaders to explore potential dates to reschedule our gathering. I hope to have some options for Board review at our upcoming meeting, on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
This tragedy is a reminder that life is both precious and fragile with each day being a gift. May we all find peace this weekend and hug your loved ones tight.
