Assistant Director of Food Services

Location: RSU 2

Reports To: Director of Food Services

Position Summary

RSU 2 is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Director of Food Services to support the planning, coordination, and supervision of the district’s child nutrition program. This leadership role helps ensure the delivery of nutritious, appealing, and compliant meals to students while supporting staff development, operational efficiency, and fiscal responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration and daily operations of the district’s food services program

  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (USDA, state education agency, health department)

  • Help develop menus that meet nutrition standards, student preferences, and budget guidelines

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate food service staff across district schools

  • Assist with purchasing, inventory control, and cost management

  • Support meal program applications, reporting, and recordkeeping

  • Collaborate with school administrators, families, and community partners

  • Serve as acting Director of Food Services in the Director’s absence, as needed

  • Serve as Chair for the Wellness Committee

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

  • Experience in school food service or large-scale food service operations

  • Knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Programs and applicable regulations

  • Complete State, Department of Education, School Food Services Statewide Training Program or equivalent preferred.

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills

  • Knowledge and use of computers

  • Supervisory and/or Managerial experience.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $28.00-$35.00 commensurate with experience. This position is 195 working days and includes one week before school starts and one week after school ends to support the district’s Kitchens in preparation and closing tasks.
